The choir was formed more than 35 years ago following the coming together of several church choirs from the Eastwood area. The first performance of this new choir was a ‘Messiah for All’. The aims of the choir have endured over the years and include encouraging people of all ages to sing, and involving the local community where possible. We offer small scholarships to senior pupils in the local schools to enable them to experience choral singing.
Recent ventures have included joint concerts with young local musicians and we remain committed to sourcing and using emerging talent whenever possible. As well as our own concerts we have participated in a variety of events both local and further afield including charity projects. We have a cherished relationship with the East Renfrewshire Schools music department. We have performed with the schools orchestra on a number of occasions.
In 2019 we celebrated our 35th (coral) anniversary with a gala opera classics concert. Our spring concert this year will be equally ambitious, performing Brahms’ German Requiem with orchestral accompaniment. This will be held on Sunday 17th May at 3pm in St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Newlands. In addition to our musical events we also organise a variety of social events throughout the year.
The choir is open to anyone who would like to give it a try. We meet to rehearse in Park Church, Giffnock from August to May on Mondays at 7.30pm. There are no auditions. If you enjoy singing come along on a Monday evening where you will receive a warm welcome.
